The film is very "talky", goes on and on about credit default swaps and even more arcane financial instruments (I was alternately bored and frustrated) and portrays no character or agency of redeeming value - neither the SEC, nor other market "watchdogs", nor the media. Title: Blue Skies
Author: Catherine Anderson

This is the fourth book in Anderson's Coulter/Harrigan/Kendrick family series, and one of the better ones. Rancher Hank Coulter meets innocent Carly at a country-western bar, has a one-night stand (actually a back-of-car stand) with her. Pregnancy results, and the book follows Hank's campaign to build a relationship with Carly. A theme of interest concerns Carly's sightedness -- blind since birth, a recent procedure has enabled her to see, but its longevity is in question.

A very practical guide for any woman who has lost her husband. covers both the psychological and financial aspects of "surviving" and thriving after a spouse dies. The author uses personal experiences to illustrate the step-by-step actions that will help to get through each day.

"Sometimes our biggest enemy is our own mind, most specifically our own thoughts and fears". This quote from the book illustrates the reasoning behind the author's need to write this book . . .to help other widows get through the "fog" that may occur while mourning the loss of a spouse.

Body Counts: A Memoir of Politics, Sex, AIDS, and Survival

Title: Body Counts: A Memoir of Politics, Sex, AIDS, and Survival.
Author: Sean Strub

Until I read this book, I had pushed to the back of my mind the horrors of the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s and 1990s, although I lost many loved ones to that disease. Sean Strub lived through that era and was hospitalized and walks away from death when the first, life-saving "cocktails" of AIDS drugs were made available. He recounts the many years of activism and struggle for government recognition of and funding for HIV and AIDS. The book contains many fascinating anecdotes of his interactions with political and public figures, including Andy Warhol, Tennessee Williams, Keith Haring, Bill Clinton, and Yoko Ono.

A Common Struggle

Title: A Common Struggle
Author: Patrick Kennedy

This book, by former congressman Patrick Kennedy, is subtitled, A Personal Journey through the Past and Future of Mental Illness and Addiction; and it is an extraordinary, comprehensive and important journey. A must-read for anyone interested in or touched by addiction in its many forms, or (often related) mental conditions like bi-polar and depression. Mr. Kennedy's personal story is very compelling, and he relates it with thoroughness and candor. The long and hard-fought battle to achieve parity for the treatment of mental and addictive conditions -- in government policy, in insurance coverage and in the court of public opinion -- is detailed thoroughly. The author is candid in discussing his well-known family -- father Ted Kennedy, mother and acknowledged alcoholic Joan Kennedy -- but thankfully, without salacious details and only to further inform the dialogue on addiction (genetic or family histories, etc.)

The Lady's Command

Title: The Lady's Command

This recent publication is the first in (what will be four installments of) Laurens' new series, The Adventurer's Quartet. Somewhat interesting tale of the search for a dastardly villain on the high seas. (If like previous Laurens adventure-romance series, he or she will not be caught until the last installment). I found this offering disappointing; not even close to the bar set by Laurens' most popular and excellent Cynster series of historical adventure-romance novels.
