Ella's grandmother has a book from her mom in code. She wants Ella to decipher it as she lost a baby at four months old and thinks the code has the reason for his death. Ella is in love with a boy in Lancaster County but moves with him to Indiana as they both got jobs there. It doesn't work out as he leaves to go home to Lancaster County. She realizes that her dream is coming true in Indiana and that she takes instruction to become Amish for God, not to get married. She also finds true love.
