Second novel in Anderson's new Mystic Creek romance-adventure series. Many of Anderson's plots center around women hiding out, running from, or in danger from husbands or ex-husbands who are emotionally or physically abusive, or just general ne'er do wells. New Leaf follows this pattern, with the female protagonist hiding out in Mystic Creek while she prepares financially and legally to regain custody of her daughter, wrongfully awarded to her ex-husband. She convinces the town's upstanding, principled (and gorgeous) deputy sheriff to engage in a "pretend marriage" with her, hoping that will bolster her custody case. Of course, real romance ensues.
