Title: Orphan Train
Author:Christina Baker Kline
Although this book is fiction, it is based on historical facts of the period between 1854 - 1929 when young orphans from the East Coast were placed on "orphan trains" which would take them to the Midwest where they would be adopted. The author weaves the lives of one of these orphans,Vivian, and Molly, a 17-year-old in the foster system. Vivian is now 91-years-old and Molly is sent to her to do community work. The friendship between them develops and although a sad story evolves of Vivian's life as a child, the connection formed between Molly and Vivian is a warm and beautiful one and very heartwarming. A great book!
