Valley of Amazement

This was a story of three generations of mothers who for different reasons are separated from their daughters. It spans fifty years in the late 19th and early 20th century, and the story takes place largely in the courtesan houses of Shanghai, and tells of the lives the different women lived. I enjoyed reading this book, and found it interesting, but a warning - it is a long one!
